Occupational First Aid

defibIn October 2008 Occupational First Aid training became a Fetac level 5 Course. Training consists of 22 hours (3days), inclusive of a two hour independent assessment.

Also included is certification in the use of the Automated External Defibrillator and the administration of aspirin for a suspected heart attack. Occupational first aid training is recognised by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council and the Health and Safety Authority as complying with an employer’s legal requirements regarding First Aid. All our instructors are experienced and are on the current instructor’s register with the Occupational First Aid Assessment Agent.

The course includes:

  • Unit 1 First aid in the workplace (including SI 299 of 2007)
  • Unit 2 Patient assessment
  • Unit 3 Respiratory emergencies
  • Unit 4 Cardiac first response (includes Defibrillator Training) As per PHECC Guidelines 2011
  • Unit 5 Wounds and bleeding
  • Unit 6 Altered levels of consciousness
  • Unit 7 Musculoskeletal injuries
  • Unit 8 Burns and scalds, Poisons, chemicals, electric shock
